BEIJING, April 8 (TMTPOST) — Shanghai had a total of 131,524 Covid-19 cases from March 1 to April 7, according to local authorities.

127,131 cases were asymptomatic. Currently, there is only one serious case.

Patients of 18 years old or younger account for 15% of the total cases while patients between 18 and 60 years old take up 69% of the total. Patients that are 60 years old or older account for 16% of the total. The youngest patient is only ten days old while the oldest is 98 years old.

Several local officials have been removed from their post due to their failure to respond to the pandemic in time and with effective measures, according to Xinhua News.

Local community transmission continues in the city, a spokesperson from Shanghai Municipal Health Commission said.

The city-wide mass testing measure has been taken by Shanghai.

The metropolis has set up several large-scale quarantine facilities named Fangcan to take in patients. Close contacts of Covid-19 patients also need to undergo quarantine for observation.

China currently adopts a dynamic zero-covid policy, which aims to make use of pandemic control and prevention measures to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases in the country to zero. Once positive cases are detected, measures such as residential community lockdown, quarantine and even travel restrictions will be imposed to curb the spread of the pandemic. Many residential communities in Shanghai are currently being locked down.

The lockdown in Shanghai has caused a rise in demand for daily necessities as residents are not allowed to leave their residential compounds. Internet companies have responded to people’s urgent logistics and supply demand in Shanghai. Pinduoduo, for example, rolled out a community group-buying service on Wednesday to maximize its logistics capacity and delivery supply to residential communities.
